Make the Most of Every Day

Have you ever heard someone say "What would you do if you only had a year to live?" This question makes me think, why do you need to have an 'end date' to make the most of every day?

The truth is we are all dying. Yes, it is a morbid statement to make but it is also true. Our life is finite. This is the one guarantee we have in life which presents us with an opportunity to cherish each day.

Suggested areas to focus on to make the most of everyday are:

  • Practice gratitude - Life is a gift and is not guaranteed to last forever therefore choose to have a heart of gratitude as this will shift your focus towards what you do have in your life rather than what you don't.
  • Be intentional - Time can easily pass you by therefore be intentional about what you want to do each day and how you want to engage with others, and also yourself.
  • Be present - Choose to be fully present in your life and available to those around you as this way you can truly embrace life. Hold onto the truth that the past is gone, the future is yet to be and the present is the moment to choose to be.
  • Live by your true north - Your values are your guiding principles in life. By being clear on what really matters to you, you will ensure you invest your time and energy into these areas of your life.
  • Focus on your wellness - By taking care of all areas of your life (physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and occupational) you will feel more balanced and fulfilled.
  • Meaningful feelings - Be open to truly feeling what is present, however, don't waste the day by holding onto these feelings. Some feelings such as anger can steal your time as you play an experience over and over, or repeat it to others. Feel the anger and then let it pass by so that you can move on.
  • Reflection - End the day by thinking about the moments you treasure and close your eyes with these lasting positive thoughts.
