Who are you?

Who are you? It sounds like an easy question to answer, right? You may have found, however, that really knowing who you are is harder than you thought. That the road to really knowing who you are and becoming your best can be challenging at times. Often it requires tremendous courage, perseverance and an unwavering belief in your purpose to know your true self.

You may have also learned that you don't simply think your way into becoming who you really are. Rather, the person you really are is determined by the actions you take each and every day. Fortunately, you get to decide who you want to be, every single day. It might feel intimidating to realise that every decision you make contributes to the person you want to be.

"Who you are will show in what you do." Unknown

Becoming the person you want to be starts with deciding who you want to be. Every day you make choices — some big, others small. Those choices add up to who you are today, and who you will likely be tomorrow. If you want to become a better person, a more fulfilled person, you need to take action starting with being aware of every choice you make and using this self-awareness to enable you, to be a better you. If you want to become a better version of yourself, you must constantly bear this in mind.

To experience real personal growth and change, embrace the fact that you will always be in the process of becoming the person you want to be. There is no finish line when it comes to your personal development. The concept that you grow to a point and then stop, is simply false. Rather, there is a constant always evolving journey toward becoming a better version of yourself.

"Be careful who you pretend to be. You might forget who you are." Unknown

The person you really are is not defined by the false fronts of people-pleasing, accumulating wealth or materialistic possessions, or carrying the burden of the hurt and pain from your life experiences. The person you are is not the person you dream of being, but the person you struggle on a daily basis to become. Yes, you would have made mistakes in your life to find out who you aren't, and you will continue to do so. These experiences take you one step closer to understanding who you really are.

It takes tremendous courage to look at yourself in the mirror each and every day and be open to what you truly see. Some days you might not like what is looking back at you. During these times remind yourself, who you have been is not who you have to be. You have a choice. Start today to be the person you want to be, as the person you are today will determine who you are in the future.
